Current Records and Management was formed in 1982 by former Polygram Inc. Promotion Manager and A&R consultant Gerry Young and two entertainment lawyers, Joseph Fodor and Brian Keevil. While at Polygram Gerry worked with such diverse international recording artists as Frank Zappa, KISS, Peter Gabriel, Dire Straits and the Bee Gees.

The first signing by Current Records and Management was Juno-award winning artists Martha & the Muffins ("Echo Beach") on Current/RCA. This was followed by the signing of another groundbreaking and soon to be Juno-award winning band, The Parachute Club ("Rise Up") also on Current/RCA. Later signings included Vancouver's Strange Advance ("We Run" Current/EMI), Molly Johnson and Alta Moda ("Julian" Current/Epic) and The Boomtown Rats' Irish guitarist Gerry Cott ("Alphabet Town" Current/Polygram). In 2016 selected titles from the Current Records 80's catalogue including "Classic" albums from Strange Advance, Alta Moda, and Gerry Cott have received enhanced releases through a worldwide licensing deal with Bullseye/Conveyor Music and UMG.

Along with these and other recording projects, Current also acquired the rights to Marvin Gaye's last concert tour recordings and compiled them into a 16-song CD titled Marvin Gaye: The Last Concert Tour, which was released worldwide in 1991 by Irving Azoff's Giant Records, distributed by Warner Brothers. The Current Records label returned in 2014 with the critically acclaimed album E by Toronto singer/songwriter Emilia, distributed by eOne Music, and was followed up in early 2017 with the release of her high energy EP "UP", produced by Juno Award winner Ryan Stewart. In 2018 U.K. singer/songwriter Kete Bowers released his album "PaperShips" produced by The Cowboy Junkies Michael Timmins, and in 2019, well known singer/songwriter Fergus Hambleton released his latest album on Current Records, titled "Neighborhoods".

Gerry Young manages four Canadian solo recording artists and groups, is a member of CARAS, and has been a member of SOCAN since 1982 through Current's publishing division Current Sounds. In 2011, Gerry's Rock memoir, Pop Goes The Weasel: Rock And Roll Off The Record was published, and is available from Amazon.comIndigo/ChaptersWalmartBarnes and Noble, and other fine bookstores in a number of foreign territories including Japan.
